Description
Introduction and Mode of Action:
Deltamethrin is a contact-stomach insecticide with rapid knockdown effect, belonging to the pyrethroid group. It disrupts sodium channel function in the insect’s nerve cord.
Usage and Application Rates:
Crop | Pest | Application Rate |
Temperate fruit trees | Leaf miner | 500 mL per 1000 liters of water |
Sugar beet | Prodonia | 1 liter per hectare |
Wheat | Wheat bug nymphs | 300 mL per hectare |
Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI):
The interval between the last spraying and harvest is 30 days for wheat and sugar beet, and 7 days for fruit trees.
Application Management:
The insecticidal efficacy of deltamethrin depends on the recommended dose for each pest and complete coverage of the pesticide layer on the leaf surface. In orchards practicing integrated pest management (IPM), its use should be cautious, as it can harm beneficial arthropods and insects.
Method of Application:
- Select and calibrate an appropriate sprayer.
- Dissolve the recommended amount of pesticide in a small quantity of water.
- Add this solution to the sprayer tank, which is half-filled with water.
- While mixing, add the remaining required water.
- Ensure the sprayer tank’s agitator operates during both preparation and spraying.
Precautions:
- Avoid ingestion of the pesticide, contaminating food for humans and animals, or contact with skin, eyes, or clothing.
- Do not inhale pesticide particles, eat, or drink during spraying.
- Wear protective clothing, a hat, goggles, a mask, impermeable boots, and gloves during spraying.
- After spraying, wash clothing and body thoroughly.
- Smoking is strictly prohibited during spraying.
- Do not reuse pesticide containers. Empty containers should be stored away from water sources and disposed of according to national environmental regulations.
- Transport must comply with international hazardous materials regulations.
Storage Conditions:
Store deltamethrin out of reach of children and animals, in its original packaging, in closed storage areas away from sunlight, moisture, and livestock.
Storage temperature should be between 10°C and 35°C.
Once the container seal is broken, the stability decreases.
Do not store the pesticide as an aqueous solution.
Symptoms of Poisoning and First Aid:
Symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, and visual disturbances.
- If pesticide solution contacts skin or face, immediately wash the affected area with soap and water several times.
- In case of poisoning symptoms, consult a doctor and provide the pesticide label.
Environmental Toxicity:
- This pesticide is hazardous to honeybees.
- Remove livestock and poultry from the area before spraying.
- Prevent grazing in freshly sprayed areas.
- Do not contaminate drinking water sources, stagnant, or underground water with the pesticide or its solution.
- Avoid washing spraying equipment near rivers and flowing water.
Antidote:
There is no specific antidote for this pesticide. In case of poisoning, treatment should be based on symptoms and clinical signs. For severe poisoning cases leading to seizures and tremors, diazepam is recommended.
