Description
Introduction and Mode of Action: Captan is a protective fungicide from the phthalimide group, capable of controlling a wide range of plant diseases. It has multiple modes of action, and its fungicidal activity is likely due to inhibition of amino acid synthesis and enzymes containing thiol (-SH) groups.
Application and Dosage:
Crop | Disease | Dosage |
Apple & Pear | Scab | 3 per thousand |
Stone Fruit Trees | Shot Hole (Cherry Leaf Spot) | 3 per thousand |
Stone Fruit Trees | Peach Leaf Curl | 2.5 – 3 per thousand |
Grapevine | Downy Mildew | 3 per thousand |
Chickpea | Blight | 2 per thousand |
Ornamental Plants | Collar & Root Rot, Seedling Death | 7.5 – 10 g per square meter |
Pre-Harvest Interval:
The interval between the last spraying and harvest is 10 days.
Application Management:
- Due to instability in alkaline environments, Captan should not be mixed with alkaline substances or used with lime-containing water.
Usage Instructions:
- Select and calibrate a suitable sprayer.
- Dissolve the recommended amount of pesticide in some water.
- Pour this solution into a half-filled sprayer tank.
- While stirring, add the remaining required water.
- The agitator must function continuously during preparation and spraying.
Safety Precautions:
- Avoid ingestion, contamination of food and feed, contact with skin, eyes, and clothing.
- Do not inhale pesticide particles, eat, drink, or smoke during spraying.
- Wear protective clothing, gloves, mask, goggles, hat, and rubber boots.
- After spraying, wash hands, face, and clothing thoroughly.
- Strictly avoid smoking while spraying.
- Do not reuse empty pesticide containers.
- Empty containers should be stored away from water sources and disposed of according to national environmental regulations.
- Transport must comply with international hazardous materials regulations.
Storage Conditions:
- Keep away from children and animals.
- Store in the original packaging in a sealed warehouse, away from sunlight, moisture, and livestock.
- Storage temperature: 10°C to 35°C.
- Once opened, shelf life decreases.

- Symptoms: Headache, dizziness, nausea, eye irritation.
- If pesticide solution contacts the skin or face, immediately wash the affected area with soap and water multiple times.
- If poisoning symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately and show the pesticide label to the doctor.
Environmental Toxicity:
- Captan is highly toxic to small mammals and dangerous to birds, fish, and earthworms.
- Keep livestock and poultry away before spraying.
- Prevent grazing in freshly treated areas.
- Do not contaminate drinking water, standing water, or groundwater with the pesticide or its solution.
- Do not wash spraying equipment near rivers or flowing water sources.
