Description
Introduction and Mode of Action: Dimethoate is a systemic insecticide with contact and stomach poisoning effects from the organophosphate group. It is also effective against mites. Dimethoate disrupts the nervous system of pests by inhibiting cholinesterase activity.
Application and Dosage
Crop | Target Pest | Dosage |
Cereals & Barley | Common Green Aphid & Toxic Aphid | 1 L/ha |
Cotton | Sucking Pests | 1 L/ha |
Sugar Beet | Sucking Pests | 1 L/ha |
Alfalfa | Stem Nematode | 1 L/ha |
Soybean | Aphids, Thrips, and Other Sucking Pests | 1 L/ha |
Temperate Fruit Trees | Scale Insects | 1 L per 1000 L of water |
Pre-harvest Interval (PHI): The interval between the last spraying and harvest is 14 to 21 days.
Application Management
Dimethoate does not cause phytotoxicity except in certain varieties of lemon, peach, fig, olive, tomato, bean, and cotton, which are sensitive to it. Dimethoate can cause russeting in some apple varieties and ornamental plants. This insecticide should not be mixed with alkaline pesticides.
Application Method
- Select and calibrate a suitable sprayer.
- Dissolve the recommended amount of pesticide in a small quantity of water.
- Add this solution to a calibrated sprayer tank that is half-filled with water.
- While stirring, add the remaining required amount of water.
- The sprayer’s agitator must remain active during mixing and spraying.
Precautions
- Avoid ingestion, contamination of food and feed, skin and eye contact, and inhalation of spray particles.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke during spraying.
- Wear protective clothing, including a work uniform, hat, goggles, mask, boots, and impermeable gloves.
- After spraying, wash hands, body, and clothes thoroughly.
- Do not reuse pesticide containers. Empty containers must be stored away from water sources and disposed of according to national environmental regulations.
- Transport of this pesticide must comply with international hazardous material regulations.
Storage Conditions
- Keep the pesticide out of reach of children and animals, in its original packaging, inside a sealed storage facility away from sunlight, moisture, and livestock.
- Storage temperature should be between 10°C and 35°C.
- Once the container seal is broken, the product’s shelf life decreases.
- Do not store the pesticide in aqueous solution form.
Poisoning Symptoms and First Aid
Symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, and vision disturbances.
- If the pesticide comes into contact with skin or face, wash the affected area multiple times with soap and water.
- If poisoning symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately and present the pesticide label to the doctor.
Environmental Toxicity
- This pesticide is dangerous to aquatic life, birds, and bees.
- Keep livestock and poultry away from treated areas and prevent grazing in freshly sprayed fields.
- Avoid contaminating drinking water, stagnant water, and groundwater with the pesticide or its solution.
- Do not wash spraying equipment near rivers or water sources.
Antidote
The antidote for Dimethoate is 2-PAM (Pralidoxime) along with Atropine.
