Description
Introduction and Mode of Action: Fipronil is an insecticide with contact, stomach, and relatively systemic action from the phenylpyrazole group. It provides effective residual control when applied as a foliar spray. This insecticide disrupts GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) receptors, leading to impaired nerve signal transmission in pests.
Application and Dosage
Crop | Target Pest | Dosage |
Rice | Stem Borer | 20 kg/ha |
Pre-harvest Interval (PHI): No officially registered pre-harvest interval has been recorded so far.
Application Management
Fipronil is effective against pests that have developed resistance to pyrethroids, organophosphates, cyclodienes, and carbamates.
Application Method
- Applied as granules spread over the soil surface.
Precautions
- Avoid ingestion, contamination of food and feed, skin and eye contact, and inhalation of dust particles.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke during granule application.
- Wear protective clothing, including a work uniform, hat, goggles, mask, boots, and impermeable gloves.
- After application, wash hands, body, and clothes thoroughly.
- Do not reuse pesticide containers. Empty containers must be stored away from water sources and disposed of according to national environmental regulations.
- Transport of this pesticide must comply with international hazardous material regulations.
Storage Conditions
- Keep Fipronil out of reach of children and animals, in its original packaging, inside a sealed storage facility away from sunlight, moisture, and livestock.
- Storage temperature should be between 10°C and 35°C.
- Once the container seal is broken, the product’s shelf life decreases.
- Do not store the pesticide in aqueous solution form.
Poisoning Symptoms and First Aid

- Keep livestock and poultry away from treated areas and prevent grazing in freshly treated fields.
- Avoid contaminating drinking water, stagnant water, and groundwater with the pesticide or its solution.
- Do not wash spraying equipment near rivers or water sources.
