Description
Introduction and Mode of Action: Metalaxyl-Mancozeb is a protective and curative fungicide containing two active ingredients:
- Metalaxyl (from the Acylalanine group) inhibits protein synthesis in fungal structures, leading to disease control.
- Mancozeb (from the Ethylenebisdithiocarbamate group) interferes with fungal respiratory enzymes, effectively stopping fungal growth.
This fungicide is effective against Pythium and Phytophthora fungi in soil and controls downy mildew in potatoes and cucumbers.
Application and Dosage
Crop | Disease | Dosage |
Field & Greenhouse Cucumbers | Pythium (Root Rot) | Apply 2 per 1000 liters of water at the base of each plant in the field. Mix 200 grams per square meter of soil in greenhouses. |
Potatoes | Downy Mildew | 2.5 kg per hectare |
Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI)
- The interval between the last spraying and harvest is 7 days for potatoes and cucumbers.
Application Management
- Metalaxyl is absorbed through the roots, stems, and leaves, while Mancozeb provides a protective coating, preventing fungal infection.
- For downy mildew, the fungicide should completely cover the plant’s aerial parts.
Method of Use
- Select and calibrate a suitable sprayer.
- Dissolve the recommended amount of fungicide in a small quantity of water.
- Pour this solution into a half-filled calibrated sprayer tank.
- While stirring, add the remaining required water.
- Ensure continuous agitation of the sprayer tank during both preparation and spraying.
Precautions
- Avoid ingestion, contamination of food or animal feed, and direct contact with skin, eyes, and clothing.
- Do not inhale spray particles. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during application.
- Wear protective clothing, a hat, goggles, a mask, boots, and impermeable gloves.
- After spraying, wash clothing and body thoroughly.
- Do not reuse pesticide containers. Dispose of empty containers safely, away from water sources, following national environmental regulations.
- Transport the pesticide according to international hazardous material regulations.
Storage Conditions
- Store out of reach of children and animals, in its original packaging, in a closed warehouse away from sunlight, moisture, and livestock.
- Storage temperature should be between 10°C and 35°C.
- Once opened, the pesticide’s shelf life may decrease.
- Do not store the pesticide in aqueous solution form.
Poisoning Symptoms and First Aid
- Symptoms of Metalaxyl-Mancozeb include eye, skin, and respiratory irritation, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and vision disturbances.
- In case of skin or eye contact, wash the affected area immediately with soap and water multiple times.
- If poisoning symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately and show the pesticide label to the doctor.
Environmental Toxicity
- Metalaxyl-Mancozeb is highly toxic to fish and aquatic organisms.
- Keep livestock and poultry away from treated areas. Do not allow grazing in recently sprayed fields.
- Prevent contamination of drinking water sources, including surface and groundwater.
- Do not wash spraying equipment near rivers or running water.
Antidote
- No specific antidote is available for Metalaxyl-Mancozeb.
- In case of poisoning, seek medical assistance immediately.
