Description
Introduction and Mode of Action: Metaldehyde is a contact and stomach-acting molluscicide used to control citrus snails, wireworms, mole crickets, tobacco slugs and snails, as well as snails and slugs in vegetables, cucurbits, and forest trees. Metaldehyde stimulates excessive mucus secretion in mollusks, ultimately leading to dehydration and death.
Application and Dosage
Crop | Dosage |
Citrus | 20-25 kg/ha |
Vegetables, Cucurbits, and Forest Trees | 20-25 kg/ha |
Tobacco | 20-25 kg/ha |
Application Management
This pesticide is most effective in dry conditions, as it immobilizes and kills snails.
Application Method
For snail and slug control in citrus orchards, tobacco fields, vegetable crops, cucurbits, and ornamental trees, apply 20 to 25 kg/ha in bait form.
This pesticide must be applied under the supervision of a plant protection expert following pre-established guidelines.
Precautions
- Avoid ingesting the pesticide, contaminating food and animal feed, skin and eye contact, and inhaling pesticide dust.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while applying the bait.
- Wear protective clothing, including work uniform, hat, goggles, mask, boots, and impermeable gloves.
- After application, wash hands, body, and clothes thoroughly.
- Do not reuse pesticide containers. Empty containers must be stored away from water sources and disposed of according to national environmental regulations.
- Transport of this pesticide must comply with international hazardous material regulations.
Storage Conditions
- Store the pesticide out of reach of children and animals, in its original packaging, in sealed storage facilities away from sunlight, moisture, and livestock.
- Storage temperature should be between 10°C and 35°C.
- Once the container seal is broken, the product’s shelf life decreases.
- Do not store the pesticide in aqueous solution form.
Poisoning Symptoms and First Aid
Symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, and vision disturbances.
- If Metaldehyde comes into contact with the skin or face, wash the affected area multiple times with soap and water.
- If poisoning symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately and present the pesticide label to the doctor.
Environmental Toxicity
- Remove livestock and poultry from the treated area before application, and prevent grazing in freshly treated fields.
- Avoid contaminating drinking water, stagnant water, and groundwater with the bait or pesticide solution.
- Do not wash spraying equipment near rivers or water sources.
