Description
Introduction and Mode of Action: Profenofos is an organophosphate insecticide and acaricide with contact and stomach poisoning effects. It works by inhibiting the enzyme cholinesterase and disrupting the nervous system of insects, leading to pest mortality.
Application and Dosage
Crop | Target Pest | Dosage |
Cotton | Cotton Bollworm | 2 L/ha |
Pre-harvest Interval (PHI): The interval between the last spraying and harvest is 14 days.
Application Management
Profenofos Usage should be based on expert advice and pest monitoring guidelines. This insecticide should not be mixed with alkaline pesticides.
Application Method
- Choose and calibrate an appropriate sprayer.
- Dissolve the recommended amount of insecticide in a small quantity of water.
- Add this solution to a calibrated sprayer tank that is half-filled with water.
- While stirring, add the remaining required amount of water.
- The sprayer’s agitator must remain active during mixing and spraying.
Precautions
- Avoid ingestion, contamination of food and feed, skin and eye contact, and inhalation of spray particles.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke during spraying.
- Wear protective clothing, including a work uniform, hat, goggles, mask, boots, and impermeable gloves.
- After spraying, wash hands, body, and clothes thoroughly.
- Do not reuse pesticide containers. Empty containers must be stored away from water sources and disposed of according to national environmental regulations.
- Transport of pesticides must comply with international hazardous material regulations.
Storage Conditions
- Keep the pesticide out of reach of children and animals, in its original packaging, inside a sealed storage facility away from sunlight, moisture, and livestock.
- Storage temperature should be between 10°C and 35°C.
- Once the container seal is broken, the product’s shelf life decreases.
- Do not store the pesticide in aqueous solution form.
Poisoning Symptoms and First Aid
Symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, vision disturbances, imbalance, and convulsions.
- If the pesticide comes into contact with skin or face, wash the affected area multiple times with soap and water.
- If poisoning symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately and present the pesticide label to the doctor.
Environmental Toxicity
- Profenofos is hazardous to fish, birds, and bees.
- Keep livestock and poultry away from treated areas and prevent grazing in freshly sprayed fields.
- Avoid contaminating drinking water, stagnant water, and groundwater with the pesticide or its solution.
- Do not wash spraying equipment near rivers or water sources.
Antidote
Atropine, diazepam, and oxime reactivators (e.g., toxogonin, obidoxime) should be administered under medical supervision.
